I’ve read this review and let me say for someone who’s read Throne of Glass, this made me want to read it again. With no further ado, let’s get to @RoamingReader’s review!!

I believe I originally bought Throne of Glass freshman year when I was going to a convention that Sarah J Maas was signing at. I got the book signed and began attempting to read it, but I stopped not too far into the novel for some reason that I don’t remember. After that, I attempted to pick the novel up at least one other time but don’t remember getting very far. After finally picking up A Court of Thorns and Roses recently and really enjoying the series, I decided it was time to go back and give Throne of Glass one last shot! And this time I had no trouble getting through it! I have concluded that I must’ve been in some reading slump the other times I tried to read it, because I really enjoyed the read and I can’t wait to see where the series goes!
Celaena: AKA MY FAV DORK ASSASIN! Can we just apricate the fact that the most fearsome assassin LOVES PUPPIES AND READING! Honestly, I really love that not only can she kick butt, but she is also a total dork. I can totally imagine her and Dorian sitting around talking about books with Fleetfoot curled up next to them 🙂
Fleetfoot: Adorable and my favorite character… nuff said
Romance: I actually enjoyed the subtle romance in Throne of Glass. Hopefully it doesn’t turn into some annoying love triangle since I really think she has more chemistry with Dorian but I guess we’ll see where that goes. As long as the romance doesn’t begin to take over the story, I think I’ll be happy.
MAGIC: Yeah this doesn’t really come up until the second half but I love it! I love that there is dark magic still lurking in this kingdom and people might just be messing with it. I want to know more about how magic works and I hope that opens the door to more high fantasy elements (Fae come in at some point right…?) I believe Sarah J Maas is at her best when she is writing these high fantasy elements so consider me excited!
The First Half: The plot about a king having a tournament to find an assassin was nothing new. For the first half of Throne of Glass, I kept thinking how it was really similar to other novels, and that left me a little bored. But then the second half kicked in and it kind of found its own identity. I love the second half so much more than the first so hopefully that will be what the rest of the series is more like.
I enjoyed reading Throne of Glass. It’s nothing too new or special but hopefully, similar to A Court of Thorns and Roses, the series will really find its stride in the second novel. I look forward to seeing how the series and characters progress in the future novels. I mostly recommend to anyone who finds the synopsis interesting or has enjoyed Sarah J Maas’s other books.
THE ENTIRE SECOND HALF: Like I said before, the second half gets so much better! It’s like a completely different novel! When Celaena found the passage in her bedroom is when things began to pick up for me. Now magic elements have been introduced so I really can’t wait to see where that goes!
The End Duel: SPEAKING OF MAGIC! The reveal that Cain was the one killing the champions was meh. Nothing too special but I’m cool with it. But I pictured that end duel between the two of them trippy as heck! I really loved it. The fact that Celaena was seeing all these demonic creatures when no one else could see them I imagine as kind of hilarious (she probably looked insane), but that would be terrifying if I was Celaena. Chaol killing Cain at the end was kind of surprising to me and I’m glad he didn’t get in lots of trouble for doing it.

WOW these books have changed so much! It’s kinda funny rereading this after finishing the rest of ToG. I still stand by that I’m more a fan of Dorian/Celaena than Chaol/Celaena but neither of those are gonna happen now so whatever! XD Sam is still my all time favorite love interest in these books tho!

I know right and I don’t know, I always saw Dorian and Celaena as soulmates (like in a friend way) because they have so much in common and understand each other on a deep level but Chaol and Celaena? I was praying to God every night for SJM to make it real lol. I agree with you though, Sam is my all time favorite!

Yeah I can see them as just really good friends. I never had anything against Chaol and Celaena but I just didn’t see what they saw in one another. I mean they’re both good people but I don’t think they’re right for each other… (if that makes sense XD) Sam is just everyone’s favorite! My friend who is on Empire of Storms right now is still not over his death.

I will never get over Sam’s death. It was just soooooo unfair to him and Celeana!! Every time he’s mentioned my heart breaks into little tiny pieces. Queen of Shadows completely changed the way I look at Chaol forever and ever. It was just so…bad between them and Chaol’s reaction to Aelin and everything was just annoying…

When she went to Sam’s grave in QoS a part of me died… SOOOO hear me out. I kinda love Chaol. Even after QoS, I still love him. I think I’m cool with him bc he felt REALLY out of character at the beginning of QoS. That was not the Chaol that I know and love (so I’ve chosen to ignore it… XD) but I felt he went back to acting normal at the end (particularly when he called Aelin’s magic beautiful) I think he’s come to terms with her powers and is gonna be cool in TOD. (But I would’ve said that at the end of HoF too so hopefully he doesn’t act super out of character again… please…)
And I’ve seen someone point out how he’s been raised into this society that says magic is evil so imagine how hard it would be to overcome what he was always taught. I thought he mostly came to terms with this at the end of HoF (*grumbles* before he acted all crazy at the beginning of QoS thus why he was acting out of character) but for me, that’s why you can’t deny that he has great character development

It’s about time I replied lol! I really do see where you’re coming from. Your POV makes a lot of sense and I know for sure that’s how I’m supposed to see it. Still though, it just hurt me so bad when he pretty much rejected her. I shipped them so hard, I didn’t know there was going to be a Rowan, I didn’t consider why he was feeling that way, I shipped the so hard in my mind all I thought was “but you love her!!! Get over it!” Lol I completely get what you’re saying and if I would have thought about it logically, it makes sense. It just hit me too hard in the heart for me to consider the logical reasons why he would be feeling the way he was.

Oh but Chaol for the first half was OBNOXIOUS! those two couldn’t have a civil conversation! OMG most people annoyed me at the beginning of QoS tho sooooo XD
